FAQs

Do I need any equipment?

You will need your own mat for online and in-studio classes. I also strongly recommend for most people to buy a block to sit on for our seated exercises. Other props will be provided by me in class.

I’m injured/have a bad back/hip/neck. Should I do Pilates?

Pilates is designed to correct imbalances in the body. We all have them! However, if you are acutely injured or in acute pain, your first port of call should be your doctor or physiotherapist. After treatment with a medical professional, Pilates is often recommended to continue a healthy movement habit and prevent recurring problems.

If you have an old injury or a chronic condition, Pilates will help manage it. Contact me if you have any questions. Or book a class and see for yourself.

What is Classical Pilates?

Classical Pilates is special. It is the original method as devised and taught by Joseph Pilates over 100years ago. The original method was called ‘Controlology’. At RowPilates we stay true to the original method. Classical Pilates is a workout! It is a complete system that has everything the body needs. Classes follow a set sequence. Exercises are linked to create a flowing energy to the work. Classes have a rhythm and lively quality. Classical pilates asks your body to practice the exercise in its original form-by doing so your body builds strength and changes from the inside out.

“controlology is the complete coordination of body, mind and spirit” - Joseph Pilates.
